How Much Can You Do if You Focus?
It’s ruthless, really.
Knowing what to do and not doing it.
It’s a form of sabotage.
Or am I just parroting the Beasty Boys.
They did advise me there would be no sleep til Brooklyn
Where we would fight for our right to party.
Still, fighting on little to no sleep makes Chris a grumpus.
It’s like thinking in a fog, swimming in a cotton candy cavalcade
of thoughts.
Last night the moon lingered in the western sky, a Cheshire cat
grin floating above the horizon.
A sideways kind of smile that made you feel like the man in
the moon was in on a secret.
That it had something to do with cheese.
Or being lasso’d.
I read a story about an author on Medium who posted a story
per day to great success.
I myself delved into a Longmire book, a rereading with Lee
Child on standby.
This after visiting with JD Kirk and a quick perusal of the Kindle
Unlimited selections.
The Amazon Algorithm suggested books by authors I had read
before, which is great if I wanted to stay in a series.
But I was looking for something new.
I wonder if we are victims of the algorithm.
I think the answer is yes.
Despite the manual labor job, I am still searching for day
work.
Not a big fan of overnights as they interrupt my ability to
think clearly.
And so I hit apply.
Again. And Again.
Some jobs I just click on to read the description, because
employers use vague words to describe their work.
Outbound sales is telemarketing and there are some lines I
won’t cross for my own sanity.
Yet click one and the bots think that’s all you want to see.
The same with driving, the same with others.
The bots want to pigeonhole you, and limit you, because …
I can’t really know why.
Maybe the bots do, but they’re not talking.
Knowing what to do, and doing what needs done are sometimes
difficult.
I know I need to drop 20 lbs. I know how.
But I’m a master at making excuses, especially when it’s in
the teens outside.
Bad back, bad ankles, metal rod in the leg hurts. Too tired
from no sleep.
Even though I have warm clothes and a warm house to return
to once it’s all done.
And maybe a long walk will help with the restless attempts
to sleep.
Maybe what I need more than anything is an algorithm for me,
a personal sets of yes/no’s and if/then’s to line things up.
Yes to more books.
No to stinking thinking.
If tired
Then take a nap
If hungry
Then eat
Yes to being outside in the sun
No to worrying about things I cannot control
Yes to all the plans
No to distractions outside of sci fi, zombies, spies and
magic
That’s it.
That’s the first part of 2022.
What about yours?
Cheers,
Chris
